Who really owns your domain name?
If you engaged a domain registrar to register your domain name for you, are you sure that they didn't register it in their own name?

At least a dozen times every year we come across business that have sometime in the past registered an internet domain name for their business. When we take a closer look at their domain name registration we find that the domain registrar has inserted their own business name as the owner of the domain.

Cowboy operators that don't register domain name appropriately often don't last long in business and they fold. That causes a huge problem for their former client, because now there is no-one that can retrieve passwords and authentications for the domain name. This can eventually be fixed, but not without making a lot of phone calls, letterwriting and sometimes fees.

When you register a domain name, confirm that YOUR details appear as the registrant. The I.T. company that registers the domain for may put their details in the "technical contacts" section, but any registrant or admin details should be you own.
