Why backup online?

Businesses today are well aware of the need to backup their data. Everyone has a story about losing a critical file to a virus or hard drive failure or just plain human error.

Backing up to CDs?There are many options, burn a CD or DVD, use a removable hard drive, backup tapes, and more. What do you do then with this backup copy of your data? You still need to carry that data offsite with you, otherwise a disaster that affects your business place could also affect your backups.

Even if you do carry the backups offsite with you everyday, they most likely have no encryption applied so if they were stolen or intercepted your private information is left completely vulnerable and readable by anyone who holds it.

That's if you can even be bothered doing your manual backup every day in the first place! Many people get lazy and backup far less frequently then they should.

If all that wasn't annoying enough, how do you know that your data has backed up successfully unless you manually check each backup religiously for errors in ALL the files...who has time for that?

Backup.com.au's Online Backup Manager automatically protects your critical data (Email, databases, MYOB, QuickBooks, My Documents, anything) by backing them up every night via a secure internet connection to our Backup Servers.

Now you're ready for any data failure, large or small.

How does it work?

Secure Offsite BackupWith an onsite visit or remote administration of your computer, Backup.com.au's technicians will install our custom Online Backup Manager and help you select which of your files need to be backed-up. The Online Backup Manager is capable of backing-up almost any type of file: Exchange databases, Lotus Domino, SQL, MYOB and Quickbooks etc. Even files that remain open and would normally be inaccessible can be backed-up.

Every evening (or whenever you schedule it) the Online Backup Manager establishes a secure connection to the Backup.com.au Servers and backs-up all of your critical data. You are now protected against any kind of data loss imaginable, even if your entire business were to be destroyed, your data is safe. Insurance companies can rebuild your buildings and offices, but let's see them rebuild your data!

You may potentially have a large amount of data to backup but don't worry, the process doesn't need to send all of the data every night. The Online Backup Manager compares today's data with the previous version on the Backup Server and then only transfers what has changed today.

Even very large files that have changed do not need to be transmitted in their entirety. The Online Backup Manager compares today's file with the file on the Backup Server and then only sends the portion of the file that has changed today. This means that even your ever-increasing Outlook.pst file that would take hours to transmit in full can be backed-up in just moments as it has usually only changed by a few megabytes.

The Backup Servers keep a history of your data and can rebuild back to a previous version (days, weeks or even months before), beyond even the most recent backup. So if you have a file, for example, that developed a corruption 6 backups ago, you can restore your data backup to 7 backups ago, before the corruption occurred.

How safe is it?

Fully Encrypted BackupFirst of all, it is much safer than the process you are probably using now. Are you performing a manual backup every day without fail? Are you taking your backup offsite with you to a secure location (or do you leave it in your briefcase or handbag, or the glove box of one of your employees cars)? Do you encrypt the data such that even if it were to fall into the wrong hands, it would be no use to them?

We do all of that automatically.

The backup runs every night (or whenever you schedule it) and provides you with a report every morning of the backup's success, and details of any errors or files that might have failed to backup. You remain completely informed of every result, for extra peace of business mind.

The data is stored far away from your office in a secure datacentre, much safer than your briefcase or glovebox. Even if someone were able to gain access to our datacentre and manage to steal our entire stock of Servers and data it would do them no good because...

Your data is securely encrypted using Triple AES encryption. The same encryption that is used by governments and banks. Infact, Triple AES encryption is one of the few levels of encryption security which the FBI deem secure enough for transfer of TOP SECRET level information in the USA. Your data is encrypted before it even leaves your computers and remains encrypted at every stage, even in storage. The encryption process is controlled by a passphrase that you nominate and your data cannot even be un-encrypted by Backup.com.au's own administrators without that passphrase. Make sure you don't lose that passphrase!

In the event of a disaster that leaves you needing to recover a large amount of data, Backup.com.au will send you the data on DVD or portable harddrive. Even in transit by courier or post, your data remains encrypted. It is unreadable to anyone that does not have your passphrase.

Feeling safer now?

What does it cost?

Well that depends. How long is your piece of string?

$50ex GST per month is all most small businesses pay for Backup.com.au to protect them. Contact our staff to have them give you a qualified estimate of your storage needs.

Recovering your data is FREE.  There is no charge for burning DVDs or even transporting data on a portable hard drive if you have suffered a catastrophic failure. Backup.com.au does not capitalise on our clients' misfortune.

Many backup devices, such as magnetic backup tapes, can cost thousands of dollars. The price, flexibility, security and level of service that Backup.com.au provide is hard to beat.
