In a recent workshop chaired by Matt Cutts from Google. He kindly took the time share some common mistakes that website owners make. We found Google making the same mistakes!
Around 38 minutes into the Youtube video of the workshop, Matt talks about websites that have faulty text whereby an apostrophe for instance is instead displayed as "’".
I have often seen this on websites and wondered what the cause was. It is apparently an artifact of copying and pasting from HTML formatted documents in Word and such that wrecks the HTML in your website. If you are copying from Word or another rich text type word processor, you can strip the HTML from your text by first pasting it into Notepad or another plain-text editor.
Then guess what we found just one day later while we were browsing through Google's online merchandise store?

We found this same error an a whole bunch of their pages. Oops.
